Millfield Theatre

Millfield Theatre stands in Edmonton, North London, on the grounds of the 18th-century Millfield House. It forms part of Millfield Arts Centre, alongside The Dugdale Centre in Enfield Town. The theatre is fully owned and run by the London Borough of Enfield, with 17 full-time staff and many casual workers. Volunteers serve as ushers, while Millfield House houses administration offices and rooms available for hire. Educational classes and workshops for all ages also take place there. The theatre opened on 15 December 1988 as London’s first new theatre since the National Theatre in 1976. Its first show was the pantomime *Humpty Dumpty*, starring Bobby Crush, which began an annual Christmas tradition. The auditorium was originally named after Councillor Lionel Genn, who championed its creation. After a refurbishment in 2009, it reopened with a new cafe bar, performance space, and toilet block. The main auditorium was renamed in honour of local performer Bruce Forsyth, who officiated the reopening. Visitors find a flexible 362-seat theatre with adaptable stage layouts. Professional shows of comedy, musicals, drama, and dance regularly appear alongside amateur productions. Local theatre companies and dance schools also use the space. A box office sells tickets when the venue is hired. Nearby, the Great Cambridge roundabout links the North Circular and A10, with Silver Street station and several bus routes providing access.
