MVG Museum

The MVG Museum is a public transport museum in Munich run by the city’s transport company. It sits in a protected 19th-century repair workshop in the Ramersdorf district. Over 5,000 square metres of hall space hold around twenty-five historic trams, buses and work vehicles. Two tracks run the length of the hall so visitors can walk beside the streetcars. Each exhibit has a coded label explaining its history and role in the network. The museum shows how Munich’s transport has changed with more than 150 posters and displays. A rebuilt 1980s subway car lets visitors sit in the driver’s seat and pretend to drive. There are also tramway switches, old signs, a small cinema and a model railway. Special events such as the beer festival Braukunst Live! take place in the same halls. Visitors follow the two tracks through the hall to see the vehicles up close. Labels beside each piece give the year and service details. The subway simulator offers a short ride experience inside an original carriage. Posters and paintings line the walls, and the model railway runs beside the main displays. The building itself, with its high arched roof, adds to the atmosphere of an old workshop turned museum.
