Bull's Wood

Bull’s Wood is a 12-hectare nature reserve east of Cockfield in Suffolk. It sits within the Thorpe Morieux Woods Site of Special Scientific Interest. The Suffolk Wildlife Trust manages the site. The wood contains early-purple orchids, herb-paris and oxlips. Roe deer move quietly among the trees. Marsh tits flit between branches and butterflies drift over the woodland floor. The uncommon oxlips grow where the soil is damp and rich. Gatekeepers, speckled woods and orange tips feed on nectar in summer. These species rely on the wood’s undisturbed habitat. The reserve protects plants and animals that need careful stewardship. Its small size makes it easy to explore on foot. A footpath starts at Palmers Farm and leads into the wood. Visitors follow the route through glades and along rides. The path winds past patches of oxlips in spring. Marsh tits call from the canopy above. The wood offers a quiet place to watch wildlife at close range.
