Museum of Military Medicine

The Museum of Military Medicine stands in Keogh Barracks on Mytchett Place Road in Mytchett, Surrey. It traces military healthcare over the past two centuries. The museum began as the Mytchett Collection in 1952. In 1981 it moved into its current building. The Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps Museum joined the site in 1994. The name changed from Army Medical Services Museum to Museum of Military Medicine in 2016. The museum holds collections from the Royal Army Medical Corps, Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps, Royal Army Veterinary Corps and Royal Army Dental Corps. Displays include uniforms, insignia, medical equipment, ambulances and an ambulance train ward coach. A large medal collection features 23 Victoria Crosses awarded to the Army Medical Services. Florence Nightingale’s adapted Crimea carriage is also on show. A shop is available for visitors. The building will close in 2025 before moving to a new site in Cardiff. Until then the museum remains open at Keogh Barracks. Visitors find a single-storey building with themed rooms and display cases. The collections span uniforms, equipment and medals. The Florence Nightingale carriage sits as a central exhibit. The shop sells books and souvenirs.
