2025 Liverpool parade incident

The incident took place on Water Street in Liverpool city centre during a victory parade for Liverpool Football Club’s 2024–25 Premier League title. The open-top bus carrying the team had just passed through the area when a grey Ford Galaxy drove into the crowd. Over 130 people were injured, with at least 50 taken to hospital, including four children. The driver, Paul Doyle, was arrested at the scene by Merseyside Police. The attack followed a day of celebrations, with an estimated one million people lining the parade route. St John Ambulance had positioned 12 ambulances along the 16-kilometre route to provide medical cover. Police described the incident as isolated and not linked to terrorism, though counter-terrorism officers supported the investigation. CCTV footage showed Doyle arguing with pedestrians before driving into the crowd. His vehicle was examined, and dashboard camera footage confirmed he was lucid and in control. Emergency services responded rapidly, with a North West Air Ambulance landing at the scene by 7 pm. Police later identified 79 injured people, though the total rose to over 130. Three adults and one child were trapped beneath the vehicle. Doyle claimed he acted in ‘blind panic’ and feared for his life, but police found no evidence of a medical episode or vehicle defect. Water Street was reopened the next morning as investigations continued.
