Innerberger Stadel in Weyer

The Innerberger Stadel stands in Weyer, a market town in Upper Austria. Built in 1654, it once stored iron and provisions for the Innerberger Hauptgewerkschaft. The massive warehouse rises above the Lower Market square, its thick stone walls marking its long industrial past. A fire in 1947 gutted the upper floors and roof, damaging the building used then by Holzbauwerke Mayer, Raunicher & Co. In 1990 a storm tore away part of the 1,000-square-metre roof, leaving repairs difficult because matching tiles were scarce. For the 1998 Landesausstellung the state rented the now-protected structure from the Hofer Kerzenfabrik and turned it into the main exhibition hall titled Land der Hämmer – Heimat Eisenwurzen. Today the Stadel shows a late-19th-century baroque façade. Inside, visitors find a single tall hall with exposed beams and large windows that let in light. The stone floor and high ceiling recall its days as a storehouse. Outside, the building overlooks the market square, its scale dominating the quiet town centre.
