Cultural heritage D-3-6340-0047 in Waidhaus
The remains of Ödkührieth Castle stand in the small village of Ödkührieth, which belongs to the market town of Waidhaus in the Upper Palatinate region. The site is recorded as a protected archaeological monument under the number D-3-6340-0047. The castle was damaged or destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War, and today a plain building with a hipped roof occupies the former castle grounds. The castle once served as the staff headquarters for Count Mansfeld in 1621. Siegfried Poblotzki described this role in his 1973 article in *Oberpfälzer Heimat*. The structure’s military significance during the war is recognised in local historical records. A simple manor house now marks the spot where the grand castle once stood. Visitors find a quiet rural setting with few traces of the past. The plain manor house blends into the landscape without grand facades or towers. The site offers little more than a sense of where history once unfolded. The surrounding village remains unspoilt, with fields and forests dominating the view. The place invites quiet reflection rather than spectacle.
