Langenhorn
Langenhorn is a quarter in Hamburg-Nord, a borough of Hamburg, Germany. It lies between the state of Schleswig-Holstein to the north and west, the quarter Hummelsbüttel to the east, and Fuhlsbüttel to the south. The area covers 13.8 square kilometres and has been part of Hamburg since 1332. In 2020, the population reached 46,272. The quarter includes two former public hospitals now run by Asklepios Klinik Nord. One branch specialises in psychiatric and geriatric care, while the other provides general hospital services. The quarter has a long history tied to Hamburg’s development. During the Second World War, a subcamp to Neuengamme concentration camp operated in Langenhorn from September 1944 to April 1945. Today, it is known for its healthcare facilities and transport links. The U-Bahn rapid transit system serves several stations in the area. Over 16,000 private cars are registered, reflecting its role as a residential and commuter district. Visitors find a mix of local services and green spaces. The Asklepios Klinik Nord branches provide medical care across multiple departments. The honorary consulate of Belgium is located on Langenhorner Markt. Schools, day-care centres, and private medical practices support the community. The area also has connections to notable figures like former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, who lived there. The U-Bahn stations make it easy to reach other parts of Hamburg.
