Landwirtschaftliche Lehranstalt Lienz

The Landwirtschaftliche Lehranstalt Lienz stands in the town of Lienz in East Tyrol. Its main building is a protected historic structure. The school began in 1921 as a boys’ agricultural school and opened a housekeeping school for girls in 1924. Between 1948 and 1951 the present main building was constructed to plans by Hans Menardi. A larger extension followed in 1984 after a full renovation. A church, the Herz-Jesu-Kirche, was added between 1946 and 1950 at the heart of the school grounds. The school offers three-stage training for farm workers and rural housekeepers. The original farm estate, the Müllerhof, still forms part of the campus. The school’s own fields and meadows provide practical training areas for students. Practical lessons also take place in the school’s workshops and stables. Teachers include qualified agricultural engineers and home-economics experts. Visitors enter a landscaped campus of red-brick buildings arranged around courtyards. The main building’s classrooms open onto wide corridors lined with display cases of student projects. The Herz-Jesu-Kirche, with its simple brick façade, serves the school community for services and events. Paths lead past the Müllerhof’s outbuildings and across the working farmland. Views extend over the town of Lienz and the surrounding Lienz Dolomites.
