Burg Regglisweiler

The Burg Regglisweiler lies in the Alb-Donau district near Dietenheim, where only earthworks remain of a once-towering medieval stronghold. First recorded in 1273, the castle belonged to the Lords of Regglisweiler until a siege in 1478 left it in ruins. Today two wide defensive ditches cut across the meadow, marking the vanished walls. Its importance is chiefly historical, for the site recalls the power struggles of the 13th and 15th centuries. The brief written record and the surviving earthworks give historians clues to the castle’s layout and fate. Visitors walk over grassy banks that once supported palisades and towers. The surroundings are quiet farmland and woodland, ideal for a short walk among wildflowers. From the ditches the view stretches across open fields to distant villages. The place asks for imagination rather than spectacle, letting the past speak through simple grassy lines in the earth.
