Sáregres
Sáregres is a small Hungarian village in Fejér County, set beside the Sárvíz-malomcsatorna canal. The settlement lies on the low plain between the Danube and the Transdanubian hills. A single main road, Landstraße 6307, runs through the centre. Trains on the Budapest–Dombóvár line stop at the local halt. The village covers a few square kilometres of farmland and scattered orchards. The village is known for three modest but well-preserved buildings. The Reformed church, built in 1884, stands in the main square. Next to it is the Roman Catholic chapel of Szent Lajos király, completed in 1883. A little downstream is the old water-mill, dating from the early 19th century. The painter István Csók, born here in 1865, is the village’s most famous son. Visitors walk along quiet lanes lined with single-storey houses. The canal path leads to the water-mill, where the wheel still turns when water is released. From the railway halt a dirt track climbs to the churchyard, offering views over the flat plain. The chapel’s red-brick façade and the mill’s whitewashed walls stand out against the green fields.
