Ben Wyvis distillery

Ben Wyvis distillery was a Highland single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Invergordon, Scotland. The first distillery to bear the name operated between 1879 and 1926 in Dingwall. It was founded by D. G. Ross and later sold to Scotch Whisky Distillers in 1887. After liquidation, the distillery was acquired by Ferintosh Distillery Co. Ltd., owned by Kirker, Greer & Co. in Belfast. The name was then changed to Ferintosh, and a residential development now stands on the original site. The Ben Wyvis distillery that began in 1965 was started by the Invergordon distillery. It was built on the Invergordon grain distillery complex and mainly produced whisky for blends. A small amount of single malt was also made. The distillery was demolished in 1977, but its stills were saved and later used by the Glengyle distillery. The site in Invergordon no longer shows the distillery buildings. A residential development occupies part of the original location. The name Ben Wyvis survives in local memory and in the whisky produced during its operation. The stills from the demolished distillery were repurposed, continuing their role in whisky production elsewhere.
