Rabenstein is a 1,317-metre mountain on the edge of the Mangfall range where Bavaria meets Tirol. A narrow ridge runs west from the Trainsjoch and ends at Rabenstein before the land falls steeply into the Ursprung valley. The summit itself lies on the state border, marked at intervals by old boundary stones set into the turf.

The mountain is reached by a track that climbs from the Trockenbachalm, a working alpine pasture on the Tirol side. Walkers leave the farm road and follow a faint path over limestone slabs to the top, where the view opens across the valley and the higher peaks beyond. The contrast between the gentle meadows below and the rugged rocks at the summit gives the place a quiet strength.

At the highest point a small cairn stands among patches of alpine rose and mat-grass. The boundary stones, some carved in the 19th century, bear the initials K.B. for Königliches Bayern and K.T. for Kaiserliches Tirol. On clear days the Inn valley and the Wilder Kaiser appear in the distance, while the limestone slabs echo with the calls of choughs circling the crags.
