Oberfüllbach Castle
The Turmhügel Oberfüllbach is a vanished motte castle in the village of Oberfüllbach, part of Ebersdorf bei Coburg in Upper Franconia. It once stood on a low earthen mound raised in the Middle Ages. Today the site shows only a flat grassy rise with no visible stonework.
The motte was built in the 12th or 13th century as a watchtower and lordly residence. It guarded a nearby trade route and the estates of local nobles. Over the centuries the wooden tower decayed and the earthworks settled back into the landscape.
Visitors find a quiet field on the edge of the village. A low, rounded mound marks where the tower once stood. An information board explains the castle’s history and the way of life here long ago. The spot offers a glimpse of medieval power in a peaceful rural setting.
