Pfarrkirche Neudorf im Weinviertel

The Catholic parish church of St Nicholas stands on the main square of Neudorf im Weinviertel, a market town in Mistelbach district. The present building dates from 1724, with a tower added in 1808. It is listed as a protected monument in Lower Austria. The church is a late Baroque structure with a tall pitched roof and an eastern tower. Inside, the nave has three bays with barrel vaults and domes, while the choir is closed by a semi-dome. The high altar, built around 1730, shows the patron saint and statues of Peter and Paul. There is also a late Gothic Pietà from about 1450 and an 1886 organ by Johann M. Kauffmann. Visitors find a spacious interior with rich stucco and pilaster decoration. The tower carries a slender octagonal spire above curved clock gables. A sacristy and a modern extension flank the choir. The square outside is surrounded by the town’s low houses, giving the church a prominent place in daily life.
