Roppersberg

The Roppersberg is a hill rising to about 510 metres in the Vienna Woods near Wolfsgraben in Lower Austria. It stands west of the Laabersteigberg and the Dreihufeisenberg, linked to them by a ridge. The Roppersberg marks the western end of this ridge, which continues west of the Laabersteigberg with an unnamed summit reaching 533 metres. On its southern slope lies the small settlement of Roppersberg, while the Heimbautal settlement sits on the northern side. The ridge is criss-crossed by forest tracks that make it a favourite route for mountain bikers. The whole area is covered in woodland, giving it a quiet, rural feel away from the city. The contrast between the wooded slopes and the open ridge creates varied scenery for walkers and cyclists. The highest point offers wide views over the surrounding countryside and towards the distant Alps. Paths lead up from both Roppersberg and Heimbautal to the ridge, where the ground is firm underfoot. The forest paths wind through beech and pine woods, with glimpses of meadows on the lower slopes. On clear days the lookout point at the summit gives a fine panorama of the Vienna basin.
