Alexandra Stadium

Gresty Road stands beside the railway station in Crewe, Cheshire. The stadium has been home to Crewe Alexandra since the late 19th century, moving to its present site in 1906 after earlier grounds were cleared for railway lines. The pitch runs east to west, with the main stand on the south side and the railway station visible beyond the east end. The ground once had wooden stands and terraces, but phased modernisation in the 1990s replaced them with all-seater stands. A naming rights deal with Mornflake in 2021 gave the stadium its current sponsored name. The stadium’s record attendance reached 20,000 for an FA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur in 1960. League crowds once averaged around 6,000 in the 1920s to 1960s, with local derbies drawing over 15,000. Attendances fell sharply in the 1970s and 1980s, dropping below 2,000 at times. Crewe’s revival in the mid-1980s brought larger crowds again, peaking at 7,741 in 2004. The ground has also hosted an international friendly between Northern Ireland and Qatar in 2015. Visitors find four named stands: the Boughey Stand holds most spectators and contains offices, changing rooms and the club shop. The Gresty Road End and Railway End are smaller stands for home fans, while the Whitby Morrison Ice Cream Van Stand houses away supporters. The stadium’s car park south of the main stand is set to host 3,000 solar panels to supply energy. The railway station’s proximity makes the stadium easy to reach by train.
