Bar jeder Vernunft

The Bar jeder Vernunft is a theatre in Berlin’s Wilmersdorf district. It presents chanson, cabaret, concerts and musical comedy in a historic mirror tent. Diners sit at small tables or in boxes while they watch. The theatre stands in Schaperstraße on the car park of the Haus der Berliner Festspiele. It sits behind the Universität der Künste Berlin. The name plays on the word bar, meaning both a pub and ‘free from’, so it reads as ‘without any reason’. Performers range from well-known names to newcomers. Brigitte Mira, Evelyn Künneke and the Geschwister Pfister have all appeared there. Michael Mittermeier made his first successes outside Bavaria on this stage. The 1994 staging of Im weißen Rößl drew national attention when it was filmed for television. Cabaret ran from 2004 to 2008 in a production by Vincent Paterson and costumes by Fiona Bennett.
