Finchley Road tube station

Finchley Road station stands at the corner of Finchley Road and Canfield Gardens in the London Borough of Camden. It is served by the Jubilee and Metropolitan lines and lies in fare zone two. The Jubilee line runs between West Hampstead and Swiss Cottage, while the Metropolitan line runs between Wembley Park and Baker Street. The station sits just 91 metres south of the O2 Centre and serves the nearby Frognal and South Hampstead areas. A five-minute walk leads to the Finchley Road & Frognal station on the London Overground’s Mildmay line. The platforms lie below street level in a cutting topped by a single glass and metal canopy. The station opened in 1879 on the Metropolitan Railway, then rebuilt in 1914 with shop-front entrances. By the mid-1930s congestion forced new deep tunnels between Finchley Road and Baker Street. These opened in 1939 and brought Bakerloo line trains to the station. In 1979 the Bakerloo line services transferred to the new Jubilee line. A future entrance may open from the O2 Centre site as part of housing redevelopment plans. Inside the station the Jubilee line uses the inner tracks with up to sixteen trains an hour. The Metropolitan line uses the outer tracks and runs north-west towards the home counties. Above ground, London bus routes 13, 113, 187, 268 and C11 link the area by day, with night routes N113 after dark.
