Paracelsus-Bad

The Paracelsus-Bad is a public indoor swimming pool in Berlin’s Reinickendorf district. It stands near the U-Bahnhof Paracelsus-Bad on the U8 line and the S-Bahnhof Alt-Reinickendorf on the S25 line. The U-Bahn station’s walls are lined with tiles showing a medieval bathing scene, linking it directly to the baths. The pool measures 25 metres by 12.5 metres and ranges from 1.25 to 3.5 metres deep, with one-metre and three-metre diving boards. A smaller pool for non-swimmers is 11.5 metres by 9 metres. The sauna area includes cold and warm plunge pools, a whirlpool, dry and steam saunas, a rest room, a massage room and an outdoor relaxation space. Two deep wells supply the water, and a 26-metre-high tank stores it. Built after the Second World War and opened in 1960, the baths were designed by the city’s building office. The name was chosen by a jury from 365 entries by local school pupils. The sauna opened in 1993, and the building has been renovated several times, most recently in 2019. The U-Bahn station’s medieval-style tiles echo the baths’ theme.
