Dr.-Vogelgesang-Klamm

The Dr.-Vogelgesang-Klamm is a rugged gorge cut by the Klammbach stream in the limestone Alps of Upper Austria. It lies at the foot of the Großer Pyhrgas, where the Haller Mauern range meets the Totes Gebirge. The gorge is the second-longest developed gorge of its kind in Austria, after the Leutaschklamm.
Its present name honours Dr Moritz Vogelgesang, a local doctor who chaired the local branch of the Alpine Club and campaigned for a footbridge to be built. In 2021 a flood destroyed the old bridges; they were rebuilt higher and reopened that August. The path through the gorge is 1,500 metres long and climbs roughly 500 steps to reach the Bosruckhütte at 1,043 metres above sea level.
About 30,000 walkers use the gorge each year. The Benediktweg long-distance trail passes through the gorge, linking the valleys of the Enns and Steyr. The route is lined with steep rock walls and the roaring waters of the Klammbach, giving a sense of the raw power of the alpine landscape.
