Saints Peter and Paul church in Gerasdorf bei Wien
The late-Gothic parish church of Gerasdorf bei Wien stands on the south-eastern edge of the village green in the municipality of Gerasdorf bei Wien. It is surrounded by the cemetery and the remains of the old defensive wall and moat. The church is dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul and belongs to the deanery of Wolkersdorf in the vicariate of Unter dem Manhartsberg. The building was first raised in the 15th century after Hussite raids, then enlarged in the late 17th century while the original south wall was kept. The tower was rebuilt after war damage in 1953. Inside, the nave has a continuous barrel vault with lunettes, while the choir is rib-vaulted. The high altar, dating from about 1780, shows the parting of Saints Peter and Paul painted in the circle of Heinrich Friedrich Füger. Visitors enter through a small porch with an iron door and a pedimented gable. The late-Gothic apse has five sides and tall pointed windows with tracery. The tower rises above the eastern end, its octagonal upper stage crowned by a bell-helmet. The sacristy projects like a transept and contains a small chapel with an old stilted portal now built into the wall.
