Traditionsstätte Talsperre des Friedens
The Traditionsstätte Talsperre des Friedens was a small museum beside Sosa reservoir in the village of Sosa, near Eibenstock. Built in the late 1960s in timber-frame style, it opened in May 1969. Its displays told the story of the dam’s construction between 1949 and 1952. More than ten thousand visitors came every year to see the exhibits. After 1989 the museum closed and its objects disappeared. Today the building serves as a private home. The site sits close to the 1952 dam wall, a concrete structure holding back the reservoir’s water. Two nearby inns, the Meiler and the Köhlerhütte, were built at the same time to serve workers and visitors. The museum’s Fachwerk walls and gabled roof echoed the local Erzgebirge building style. Inside, photographs and tools illustrated the dam’s difficult building years. Visitors could walk from the museum down to the water’s edge in just a few minutes. Outside, the reservoir is surrounded by gentle wooded hills typical of the Erzgebirge. A footpath follows the shoreline, offering views of the dam and the calm water. In winter the area becomes a quiet spot for cross-country skiing. The old inns still stand nearby, now serving walkers and cyclists. The building itself, once filled with history, now holds private life instead.
