Schloss Wackerbarth

Schloss Wackerbarth stands in the Radebeuler district of Niederlößnitz, surrounded by vineyards on the road to Meißen. Originally built as Wackerbarths Ruh’ in the early 18th century, it was the retirement home of August Christoph von Wackerbarth, a field marshal and minister under Augustus the Strong. The estate later passed through various owners, including a boys’ school, a mental asylum, and a spa before becoming a state winery. The estate now houses the Saxon State Winery, combining the historic Baroque palace with a modern wine and sparkling wine manufactory. Visitors can tour the production area, taste the house wines and sparkling wines, and see example vines of the cultivated grape varieties. The restaurant is located in the eastern wing of the historic estate building, while the Belvedere on higher ground serves as a venue for weddings. The surroundings include the vineyard landscape of the Johannisberg single vineyard within the Lößnitz area. The estate lies in a protected monument zone and forms part of the larger protected landscape of the Lößnitz. The historical ensemble includes the Jacobstein and the Fliegenwedel vineyard, both under monument protection.
