Fir and Pond Woods

Fir and Pond Woods is a 29-hectare nature reserve east of Potters Bar in Hertfordshire. It consists of two separate woods, Fir Wood and Pond Wood, joined by a short footpath. The woods sit on land once part of the ancient Enfield Chase. Within the reserve are woodlands, meadows and wetlands. The site supports a wide variety of bird life. The reserve’s meadows and wetlands attract many species. Turkey Brook flows past a meadow at the southern end of Pond Wood. The brook adds to the wetland habitat that supports different plants and animals. The Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust manages the site for wildlife and visitors. A footpath links Fir Wood to Pond Wood. Visitors can walk through the woodlands and along the brook. The meadows provide open views and a place to spot birds. Access is from Coopers Lane Road opposite Hook Lane. The reserve offers quiet walks in varied countryside.
