Sankt Petrus

The late-Gothic parish church of Regau stands in the centre of the village, surrounded by the old cemetery. It is dedicated to Saint Peter and belongs to the Diocese of Linz. The church and its former burial ground are protected as historic monuments. Regau became an independent parish in 1784 after earlier belonging to the large parish of Schöndorf. The priests have always come from the Augustinian Canons Regular of Saint Florian. A document from 1199 first mentions a church here, and the tower still bears the date 1494. The nave was raised and lengthened between 1885 and 1887. Inside, the three-bay rib-vaulted choir ends in a three-sided apse. The west tower carries a new pointed spire. The furnishings are neo-Gothic, including the former high-altar painting of the delivery of the keys to Peter by Daniel Miller from 1641. The churchyard contains the late-Gothic branch church of Saint Vitus in Oberregau.
