Rima

Rima is a small Walser village in the Alps at 1 417 metres above sea level. It sits in a green hollow at the head of the Val Sermenza, a side valley of the Valsesia. The Monte Tagliaferro, 2 964 metres high, towers above the village with its steep northern face. The Walser settled here in the 13th century, coming from Alagna Valsesia through the Colle di Mud. By the early 19th century the population had grown, but later industrialisation emptied the valley. Fewer than a hundred people remained, yet today tourism has brought new life to the hamlet. Visitors find two museums: the Casa del Marmo with its artificial-marble collection and the Gipsoteca Della Vedova. In summer many paths lead through the high meadows and up to the Rifugio Vallè at 2 200 metres. The Tagliaferro’s great north wall draws climbers, while the Colle Mud offers a crossing to Alagna.
