Ascherjoch

The Ascherjoch, also called Semmelkopf, is a mountain standing 1,557 metres above sea level in the Mangfall range of the Austrian Alps. It forms the easternmost, gently rounded summit of a ridge that stretches south-west from the Trainssattel col. The ridge is separated from the main ridge by the Trainssattel, leaving Ascherjoch as a broad, grassy dome. Reaching the top is straightforward from the Trainssattel, where a clear path leads up the final slopes. West of the summit lies the Ascheralm alpine pasture, a small cluster of huts surrounded by high meadows. Further west the ridge continues to the Saurüssel, a narrower crest with rocky outcrops and steep drops on either side. Visitors who climb to the Ascherjoch find a wide grassy summit with views across the Mangfall mountains. The flat top offers space to sit and look back towards the Trainssattel and eastwards over the valleys. In summer the slopes are dotted with wild flowers and the occasional marmot. The air is cool even on warm days, carrying the scent of alpine herbs.
