Hagen mountain range

The Hagen Mountains form a rugged subrange of the Berchtesgadener Alps, mostly in Salzburg but with a western edge in Bavaria. The range covers about twelve by ten kilometres and drops sharply on its western side by 1,700 metres to the Königssee basin. Its highest peaks stand around the edge, with Großes Teufelshorn reaching 2,363 metres and Kahlersberg 2,350 metres. The interior holds many summits above 2,000 metres, while valleys such as the Bluntau and Salzach cut deep boundaries on the north and east. The Blühnbach Valley separates the Hagen from the Hochkönig massif to the south. The Teufelshörner peaks link the range to the Steinernes Meer, and the Torrener Joch connects it to the Göll massif. Hikers find marked trails through steep limestone walls and alpine meadows above the tree line. The area is known for its caves and karst landscapes studied by local geologists.
