Llangwyllog railway station

Llangwyllog station lies on the old Anglesey Central Railway between Gaerwen and Amlwch. The line opened in February 1866 and the single-storey building with its ticket and waiting rooms stood on the west platform. A small goods shed stood north of the main building. In 1914 the station gained a passing loop, the only one on the whole line, and a second platform appeared on the opposite side with a wooden shelter. The line closed to passengers in 1964 under the Beeching cuts, though freight trains ran until 1993. Today the track remains in place but the goods track and passing loop have been lifted. The station building itself is now privately owned and kept as a private home. Visitors can still see the original platform edges and the main building’s walls. The second platform’s wooden shelter has gone, but its outline is clear. The trackbed forms a quiet green corridor through the countryside. The site offers a quiet glimpse of Anglesey’s railway past without modern intrusions.
