Schloss Haidenhof

Schloss Haidenhof stands in Passau’s Haidenhof Süd district, a small Baroque hunting lodge built in 1685 by Domherr Vigil Graf von Thun. The present two-storey form dates from 1790, when Hofbaudirektor Johann Georg Hagenauer remodelled it for Domherr Leopold Freiherrn von Hanxleden. Its five-bay façade has a round-arched doorway framed by pilasters and an architrave, while the ground-floor windows are half-height. The building once belonged to Wolf Hayll, whose Hayllhof gave the place its name. The estate included an inn and the little Schloss, which later became a favoured hunting retreat. Nearby stand the early-19th-century L-shaped stables and the servants’ wing, both added soon after the main house was finished. A 19th-century fountain group of four children plays in the garden, marking the spot where the Domherr once strolled. The modest Baroque lodge sits quietly beside Neuburger Straße, its plain façade concealing three centuries of noble leisure.
