Rowhill Nature Reserve

Rowhill Nature Reserve is a 26.6-hectare Local Nature Reserve straddling the Hampshire–Surrey border near Aldershot and Farnham. Owned by Rushmoor Borough Council, it was declared a Local Nature Reserve by Waverley Borough Council and is managed by the Rowhill Nature Reserve Society. The reserve sits mainly on coppiced woodland with hazel and sweet chestnut trees. Ponds, a stream, heath and marshland also form part of the landscape. It marks the source of the River Blackwater. The site is recognised for its varied habitats that support diverse wildlife. Coppicing keeps the woodland open and allows light to reach the forest floor. The ponds and stream provide water for birds and insects. Heathland supports heather and gorse while marshland hosts moisture-loving plants. This mix of habitats makes the reserve important for local biodiversity. Visitors enter through access points such as Cranmore Lane. Paths wind through the woodland and beside the stream. Wildflowers bloom in spring and summer along the edges of the ponds. Birdwatchers spot species like woodpeckers and warblers. The reserve offers quiet walking amid changing landscapes throughout the year.
