Leuchtturm Lausitz

The Leuchtturm Lausitz stands on the shore of Geierswalder See in Elsterheide-Geierswalde, part of the Saxon Lausitz region. It is attached to a hotel and restaurant building, forming a striking landmark above the water. Though not an official navigation aid, the tower guides sport boats at night with a white rotating light on its summit. Its octagonal base houses the entrance and dining area, while the tower itself rises above in four floors of guest rooms. The structure offers a rare inland lighthouse experience, blending maritime tradition with modern hospitality. Guests can stay overnight in rooms reached by the tower’s internal staircase. Below, the restaurant serves meals with views over the lake, and the terrace opens directly onto the water’s edge. The site sits within a landscape shaped by former open-cast mining, now reclaimed as a peaceful lake district. Visitors find a quiet retreat where light and water meet. The tower’s light sweeps across the lake after dark, marking the hours for those on the water. Inside, rooms are simply furnished, with windows framing the lake or the surrounding forests. The restaurant serves regional dishes, and the terrace is a favoured spot for sunset views. The area invites walks along the shoreline paths, where reeds and water birds thrive.
