Pfarrkirche Straß in Steiermark

The parish church in Straß in Steiermark is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. It stands in the village of Straß in the Leibnitz district of southern Styria. The church has been protected as a listed building since the 20th century. Built in 1628 as a castle church for the Eggenberg family, it later became the parish church. The interior features early Baroque vaulting with frescoes by Joseph Adam von Mölk from 1776. The high altar holds a painting by Hans Adam Weissenkircher, while side altars display works by the same artist. The church has a rectangular nave and a narrower choir with a square tower at the east end. A stone Pietà and a statue of Saint Rosalia stand in the Wagna Chapel near the entrance. A 17th-century Marian column with the Eggenberg coat of arms stands outside. The organ, built in 1910, completes the interior.
