Evang Pfarrkirche (Zurndorf)

The Evangelische Pfarrkirche Zurndorf is a Lutheran church set back from the main road in the market town of Zurndorf, in Burgenland’s Neusiedl am See district. It belongs to the Burgenland Superintendentur A. B. and is protected as a listed monument. Built in 1787, the building was restored externally in 1974. The church is a large single-nave structure with a three-storey tower at the front. The tower has pilaster strips and a domed helmet roof. Inside, the three-bay nave is covered by barrel vaults between double ribs on double pilasters. Wooden galleries run round three sides of the nave. The pulpit altar dates from the late 18th century and features drawn ionic columns and entablature pieces. It holds a painted scene of Jesus at Emmaus by F. G. Hertzsch, dated 1784. Above the altar hangs the pulpit with a sower relief on its basket. The sounding board is topped by a lamb figure on a scroll pedestal.
