Ortskapelle Felsenberg
The Ortskapelle Felsenberg stands in the woods near Neu-Pölla in Lower Austria. It was once part of the parish church but now belongs to the abandoned village of Felsenberg. After the village was cleared in 1938 for a military training ground, the chapel was left to decay. The chapel’s tower was once part of a small castle that fell into ruin. In 1905 the old tower was pulled down and a new rectangular chapel built in its place. The building has a rounded apse and a pointed tower at the west end. Inside, a flat ceiling covers the single room, and two pointed windows light each side wall. A wooden high altar from 1905 came from the church in Edelbach. The tabernacle door shows a gilded crucifixion scene. Above it stand painted wooden statues of the Holy Trinity, Saint Sebastian, Saint John Nepomuk and two angels. The roof slopes gently over the apse and nave, letting in light through a round window at the east end.
