Jugendstiltheater Klagenfurt

The Jugendstiltheater Klagenfurt is a tiny theatre in the lakeside city of Klagenfurt in Carinthia. The building stands in the grounds of the Klagenfurt Künstlerhaus, a cultural complex designed in the late 19th century. Its curved lines and floral motifs belong to the Secession style that flourished around 1910. The theatre opened in February 2012 with ten seats and is run by the association VADA. Productions range from Russian plays and readings to new writing for young audiences. Some performances are given in Russian, while others are staged in German. The pavilion itself measures only nine and a half square metres and was once a public lavatory. Its original fittings have been removed, leaving a small, plain room with a single door and a single window.
