Gnadenkirche
The Gnadenkirche stands in Haid, a district of Ansfelden in Upper Austria. It sits on Adalbert-Stifter-Straße, a quiet street lined with modern buildings. The church belongs to the Evangelical Superintendentur A. B. Upper Austria, linking it to a wider Protestant network. Its history begins with a refugee camp church built in 1943, later destroyed by fire in 1961. The current building was completed in 1964 with support from Dutch and Swedish partners. The church is worth visiting for its unusual origins and international connections. The original 1948 structure served both Protestants and Catholics in a shared space. After the fire, Dutch and Swedish donations helped build the new church designed by architect Helmut Teutsch. The windows and mosaic were created by painter Günther Teutsch, adding artistic value. A bell cast in Passau in 2000 further enriched the church’s features. Its role as a filial church since 1976 connects it to the larger Traun parish. Inside, the simple hall church has a clear layout with a side tower. The west window shows the seven days of creation, while the east window depicts the Last Supper. Near the altar, a window illustrates Peter’s denial. The entrance mosaic and the 2000 bell complete the interior. The attached 1979–84 parish house adds a practical element to the site. The church remains a quiet place for reflection and community gatherings.
