Pwll y wrach

Pwll y wrach is a waterfall on the River Ennig near Talgarth in south Powys, Wales. The river splits into two streams before dropping over a lip of hard rock into a deep pool below. The pool has been carved out of softer mudstones beneath the harder rock layer. The site lies within Cwm Pwll-y-wrach, a steep wooded valley recognised for its special wildlife and geology. The valley is protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and managed as a nature reserve by the Brecknock Wildlife Trust. The trust has laid out trails so visitors can walk through the woodland and reach the waterfall. Local tradition links the name to an old custom of testing suspected witches by plunging them into the pool. Visitors follow winding paths through dense woodland to reach the falls. The sound of water grows louder as the trail descends into the valley. At the bottom, the two streams plunge into a deep, dark pool surrounded by mossy rocks. The site offers a quiet spot to watch the water tumble and listen to the woodland birds above.
