Wohnstallhaus

The Weberhausmuseum Neudorf stands in the village of Neudorf in Upper Franconia as a former weaver’s house. It represents the historic trade of weaving in the Franconian Forest. In the mid-19th century most families in the village earned their living mainly from weaving, while farmers wove as a sideline. The museum uses items from the Wolfrum family’s belongings to show how hand-weavers lived. Karl Wolfrum, who lived in the house from 1879 to 1964, was one of its last occupants. The building was restored and opened as a museum on 2 November 1971 under District Administrator Heinrich Lang. Since 1973 the local heritage society has cared for the site. The house is a single-storey dwelling with a hayloft and a thatched roof from the late 18th century. Its timber-framed gable is clad in wooden boards. A covered draw-well stands beside the entrance. Inside, visitors see the original black kitchen and an attached bake-oven. The living quarters once housed goats, pigs, hens and geese.
