Pfarrkirche hl. Ägidius, Reith bei Kitzbühel

The parish church of St Ägidius stands at the western edge of Reith, a village in the Kitzbühel district of Tirol. It belongs to the deanery of St Johann in Tirol within the archdiocese of Salzburg. The church and its surrounding cemetery are listed as historic monuments. The building began as a chapel consecrated in 1188 and became a filial church in 1330. In 1645 it became a vicariate and in 1891 a full parish church. The present baroque nave and choir were erected between 1729 and 1731 by the master builder Abraham Millauer. The interior vaults were decorated with stucco by Gabriel Zipf and Georg Edl around 1730, while the ceiling paintings are by Simon Benedikt Faistenberger from 1729. The church has a four-bay nave with a single-bay choir ending in a rounded apse. A two-storey wooden west gallery overlooks the interior. The high altar, altered in the 18th century, holds a carved group of the Holy Family by Thomas Blieml from 1783. The left side altar shows a painting of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and the right side altar depicts Mary and Joseph interceding for the souls in purgatory. The late 14th-century processional cross is kept inside, and a crib by Johann Giner is displayed at Christmas.
