Zierbrunnen Denglerstraße/Beethovenallee

The Bübchenbrunnen is a decorative fountain at the corner of Beethovenallee and Denglerstraße in Bonn’s Godesberg-Villenviertel. It stands on a narrow green space in front of the Herz-Jesu-Kirche. The site is a quiet corner of a residential quarter known for its villas and tree-lined streets. The fountain was moved here in 1937 after earlier stops in Cologne and a Plittersdorf villa garden. It is one of the few surviving structures from the 1914 Cologne Werkbund exhibition. The fountain was designed by architect Hans Schumacher and carved from Franconian shell limestone by sculptor Paul Seiler. It was originally intended as a practical village well for the exhibition’s model village. Water flows from four spouts shaped like grotesque faces into small basins around the rim. A central column rises to a half-sphere topped by a small naked bacchant holding a bunch of grapes. Visitors find a compact but finely detailed stone fountain set in a small triangular lawn. The four face spouts and iron water pipes are still in working order. The sculpture above the column is a playful reminder of the fountain’s origins in early 20th-century design circles. The surrounding villas and the church create a calm, well-kept setting.
