Church of Our Saviour

The Salvatorkirche stands in Graz’s third district, Geidorf, as the parish church of Graz-Christus der Salvator. It belongs to the Graz-Ost deanery within the city church network. The Salvatorian order runs the parish and also operates the Salvatorian college next door. The church was built in two phases during the 1960s and 1970s. Karl Raimund Lorenz designed the first part, opened in 1969, after local population growth demanded more space. Herbert Missioni later added the pastoral centre in 1978. Inside, the square floor plan centres on a rounded sanctuary with a circular rose window. Twelve columns represent the apostles, and fourteen supports hold the Stations of the Cross. The brass tabernacle takes the shape of a wheat sheaf. An organ sits beside the altar, and a block of natural stone projects into the nave on the east side. The design keeps seating arranged in gentle curves around the altar, giving every worshipper a clear view of the liturgical space.
