Teignmouth Lido

Teignmouth Lido is an open-air heated pool beside the town’s promenade in Teignmouth, Devon. It stands directly behind Eastcliff Walk, a few steps from the beach. The pool was built in the 1970s and measures 25 metres by 12.5 metres. Teignbridge District Council runs it along with two other outdoor pools at Buckfastleigh and Ashburton. The council also hires the pool to schools, sports clubs and private groups for lessons and training. The pool has survived several attempts to close or rebuild it. In 2010 a regeneration plan suggested turning part of the site into apartments or a hotel. A heat pump and solar panels were later added to cut emissions and costs. The lido closed for repairs in 2020 and 2021, and again in 2022 after a water leak. Over £800,000 was spent on green upgrades before it reopened in May 2023. Visitors find a heated pool open from May to September. The water stays warm even when the air is cool. The lido is used for public swimming, lessons and club sessions. Surf Life Saving Club meets nearby on the beach. The promenade offers views across the bay to the red cliffs of Dawlish.
