Hochkar

Hochkar is a mountain and ski area in the Steiermark region, about 150 kilometres from Vienna. It stands near the small resort of Göstling an der Ybbs, close to the border with Lower Austria. The peak reaches 1,808 metres and is a popular destination for skiers from Vienna. A two-hour drive brings visitors to the slopes, making it an easy escape for a day on the snow. The mountain also offers summer activities when the lifts reopen for sightseeing and outdoor sports. The ski area has modern lifts, including one detachable quad lift and four normal quad lifts, three of which include conveyors. There is also a double chairlift and three towlifts, one designed for children. In summer, the lifts provide access for hiking and mountain biking. The Hochkar Cave, 600 metres long, is open for guided tours only during the warmer months. These tours give visitors a chance to explore the mountain’s underground features.
