Hartmannsberg

Schloss Hartmannsberg stands between two lakes, the Schloßsee and the Langbürgner See, in the village of Hartmannsberg near Bad Endorf. It is a former moated castle, now a three-storey baroque building with a hipped roof. The complex includes a chapel with a high roof turret topped by a bulbous dome. Nearby are 19th- and early 20th-century farm buildings and a park. The site first appears in the Codex Falkensteinensis in 1166 as Hademarsberch. It belonged to the counts of Neuburg-Falkenstein, then passed to the counts of Wasserburg before reverting to the dukes of Bavaria. The Pinzenauer family rebuilt it after the Thirty Years’ War and held it until 1766. In 1957 Georg Schäfer displayed parts of his art collection here, and since 1993 the district has used it for exhibitions and concerts. Visitors find the main building with its baroque plasterwork and the attached chapel with its ornate interior. The farm buildings and barns show traditional timber-framed construction. The park and the two nearby lakes complete the setting, while the remains of the medieval Zickenburg and Zinnenburg lie just beyond.
