Beaufort Theatre

The Beaufort Theatre stands in Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent, as the main theatre for the area. It was once part of a larger group of venues including a cinema and another theatre. In 2017 a community group took it over, though it remains available for hire by amateur performers. The building holds a 338-seat auditorium and a separate ballroom. A proscenium arch frames the stage, which has limited flying capability and adjustable lighting. The theatre once hosted professional shows and touring acts in theatre, music and dance. Nine local arts groups stage their yearly productions there now. It began life as a cinema before being converted in the 1960s. The ballroom has welcomed rising bands such as Mott the Hoople and The Stereophonics. Visitors find a well-equipped auditorium with a stage that can fly scenery up to 16 feet. Fixed lighting bars and winch-operated bars give flexibility for performances. The ballroom offers a simpler space for smaller events. The building keeps its original cinema layout in parts. Its walls still echo earlier decades of entertainment.
