Pfarrkirche Wettmannstätten
The parish church of Wettmannstätten stands in the market town of Wettmannstätten in the Deutschlandsberg district of Styria. It is dedicated to Saint Valentine and has been under Denkmalschutz since its construction. The building replaced an earlier church erected in 1712, which had served the community for two centuries. The present church was designed by architect Max Ehrenberger and built between 1965 and 1967. Its façade features a fresco by painter Franz Weiß, completed in 1973. The interior retains the high-altar painting of Saint Valentine by Franz Michael Strauss, originally created in 1718 and restored in 1963. The church’s design reflects the modernist style of the 1960s while preserving elements from its predecessor. Visitors find a single-nave church with a plain exterior and a modest interior. The restored high-altar painting dominates the sanctuary, framed by simple furnishings. The surrounding market town retains a quiet, rural character, with the church standing at its centre. The building’s protected status ensures that its architectural and artistic features remain intact for future generations.
