Haverfordwest Town Museum

Haverfordwest Town Museum stands in the town of Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire. It occupies the former governor’s house inside the castle walls, a Grade II listed building dating from 1779. The museum faces the former town prison and holds local history, social history, castle records and a small collection of local art. Its displays cover the town’s past and the castle’s role in it. The building itself is part of the medieval castle complex. The museum is worth the journey for anyone interested in the area’s heritage. Pembrokeshire County Council planned to sell the site in 2012 and move the collection elsewhere. As of February 2025 the museum remains closed temporarily after thieves stole lead from the roof in November 2023. The decision to relocate has not been carried out and the collection has not moved. Visitors cannot enter the museum at present. The building still stands within the castle grounds, showing its 18th-century governor’s house exterior. The castle walls and the former prison site can still be seen nearby. The town centre of Haverfordwest lies just beyond the castle entrance.
