Green Pond Road

Green Pond Road was a football stadium in Walthamstow, London. It stood on Green Pond Road and was home to Walthamstow Avenue. The club merged with Leytonstone & Ilford to form Redbridge Forest, which later became Dagenham & Redbridge. The ground was often called The Green Pond or The Pond. The stadium hosted one match during the 1948 Summer Olympics. Its final game took place on 6 May 1989, when Leytonstone/Ilford beat Farnborough Town 5–3. Leytonstone/Ilford finished the season as champions of the Isthmian League Premier Division. Farnborough Town came second. Visitors to the site would have found a modest football ground with a single pitch. The stadium had no grandstand or elaborate facilities. It was a simple venue for local football. Today, the area is part of Walthamstow’s residential landscape. No trace of the stadium remains above ground.
